About

Welcome to FishingSpain.net—my little corner of the internet where I get to talk about what I love most: fishing. And, let’s be honest, probably ramble a bit about life too.

I’m Dave. 65. Retired welder. Originally from Cornwall, but these days? Living the dream in Spain.

Fishing has been a part of me for as long as I can remember. Started out as a kid, standing on the banks of English rivers, waiting for something—anything—to bite. Grew up, got a job, kept fishing. Then somewhere in my 30s, I got the bright idea to try Spain. And let me tell you, it ruined me for anywhere else.

Fast forward a few decades, a lot of trips, and a lifetime of dreaming—and now, here I am. Finally retired. Finally here. Finally fishing full-time.

Home is Where the Lake Is

Took my time picking the right spot. Spain is massive, and there are lakes everywhere, but I kept coming back to one place: Embalse de Orellana

So I put down roots. Got myself a quiet villa on a hillside, looking out over the water. Whitewashed walls, terracotta roof, olive groves all around. There’s a little garden where I grow tomatoes, peppers, and whatever else survives my questionable gardening skills. In the evenings, I sit on the veranda, glass of wine in hand, watching the last bit of sunlight fade over the lake. Not bad for a bloke who spent his life welding metal together.

Why Here? Why Orellana?

Simple. The fishing.

Orellana is legendary. Black bass, pike, zander. The kind of place where you cast a line and anything might be on the other end. The kind of place where you don’t just fish—you get completely lost in it. No noise, no rush, just you, the water, and the quiet plop of your lure hitting the surface.

The nearby village is small but exactly what I need—friendly locals, a market where I know the butcher by name, a few proper tapas bars where I’ve already made myself a regular. Life moves slower here. It suits me just fine.

Why This Blog?

Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s this: fishing is better when it’s shared.

I’ve spent years figuring out the best fishing spots, the right tackle, the little tricks that make all the difference. I’ve had days where I caught monsters and days where I sat there for hours and caught nothing but sunburn. And if any of that helps someone else—whether you’re planning a fishing trip, thinking about retiring out here, or just dreaming of a life on the water—then it’s worth writing down.

So that’s what FishingSpain.net is for. Tips. Stories. Advice. A place where anglers—local, visiting, or just curious—can find something useful. Or at least something entertaining.
